“Anjali is a female singer-songwriter with worlds of talent. Not only does she display her excellent guitar skills, but she also plays the keyboard and the piano. And just wait until you hear her sing, she has a very powerful yet angelic voice…It is a definite fact that this woman can definitely deliver the goods. The entertainment goods…” (www.openingbands.com)

Anjali Rangaswamy has been raised on a smorgasbord of classical piano, East Indian ragas, and rock and roll music. Her strengths as an acoustic musician and composer, coupled with her rich and resonant vocals, often draw obvious comparisons to Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan. Anjali has recently committed herself to developing her music further and reaching audiences far and wide. With the help of her dedicated fan base, her debut CD “Offering” has made its way to four out of five continents.

Growing up in New Delhi, India, Anjali’s incessant pounding of the piano keys resulted in her taking her first piano lesson at the age of 4 at the Delhi School of Music. After arriving in the States 6 years later, Anjali found her singing voice and began taking East Indian classical vocal training. Realizing the limited mobility of the piano, she picked up the guitar while in high school to enable her to perform more frequently.

Anjali’s songwriting began while she was in college at the University of Illinois as a mechanical engineering major, and it grew to a point where she knew that this was what would eventually make her happy. Her compositions subtly combine her influences from Indian, western, and classical music training to yield a sensuous, emotional, and honest product. Through performing at numerous fundraisers, coffeehouse showcases, and various University talent shows (where she always emerged a winner), her songwriting matured and her growing fan base clamored for a product to take home. Anjali’s debut CD, “Offering”, was released her senior year of college, sold over 100 copies in its first day, and has been reviewed by openingbands.com. It has also received radio airplay on Champaign’s 90.1 WEFT and 88.7 ROCK.

After graduating, Anjali took a position in the information technology industry in Chicago, where she continued to write and perform at places including the Beat Kitchen, the Note, and the Heartland Café. She currently lives in LA, where she works as an engineer and continues to write and perform frequently with her band.
